PAUL DI'ANNO, former IRON MAIDEN singer, dies aged 66

Paul Di'Anno, the former Iron Maiden singer who handled the microphone on the band's first two albums, has died. The iconic metal singer passed away at his home in Salisbury, UK. He was 66.

The news of Di'Anno's death was confirmed today (October 21) by his long-time record label Conquest Music on behalf of his family. A statement said Di'Anno had suffered health problems for some years and had been reliant on performing in a wheelchair, but also noted that he had performed more than 100 times since 2023. His last solo artist performance occurred on August 30 at Hype Park in Krakow, Poland.

Born in Chingford, East London, in 1958, Di'Anno spent his youth singing in a handful of rock bands before joining Iron Maiden in 1978. Di'Anno contributed a mix of soaring vibrato and gritty, tough-guy demeanor to the group's first two albums, Iron Maiden (1980) and Killers (1981), before leaving the group in '81. The Di'Anno era also saw the release of the live EP Maiden Japan.

Di'Annos Musikkarriere setzte sich nach Maiden mit Battlezone, Killers, Gogmagog und Paul Di'Anno's Warhorse sowie mit einer Reihe von Soloalben fort. Zuletzt erschien 2024 sein Kompendium The Book of the Beast, das Soloaufnahmen von Originalsongs und neu aufgenommene Versionen von Material aus seiner Maiden-Zeit enthält।

Anthrax, Kreator, Exodus und viele andere haben dem verstorbenen Di'Anno seit der Bekanntgabe seines Todes in den sozialen Medien Tribut gezolt. Einige dieser Tribut-Posts finden Sie weiter unten.
