Why is Cristiano Ronaldo not playing in Al Kholood vs Al Nassr in the Saudi Pro League?

Cristiano Ronaldo fans were surprised to see the squad for the Saudi Pro League match between Al Nassr and Al Kholood as the Portuguese captain was absent from the squad on Friday.

Ronaldo has scored six goals and assisted two more in seven matches for Nassr this season. He also scored the winner in the last Saudi Pro League match, a 1-0 win over Al Shabab.

However, the 39-year-old was not named in the squad for the away match against Al Kholood.

WHY IS RONALDO NOT PLAYING IN AL KHOLOOD AGAINST AL NASSR?

Ronaldo's absence from the matchday squad could be a strategic move by Stefano Pioli as the team is looking good in the Asian Champions League. There are no reports of injury to the striker so far.

At 39, the Portuguese legend's fitness could be an issue that could affect Al Nassr's Champions League hopes later in the season.

He already missed a Champions League match last month with a viral infection, sitting out against Al Shorta.

"Al Nassr captain Cristiano Ronaldo was not feeling well today and has been diagnosed with a viral infection," the club said at the time on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter.

"The team doctor has confirmed that he needs to rest and stay at home. Therefore, he will not travel to Iraq with the team today. We wish our captain a speedy recovery."
