NFL is reviewing Roquan Smith's hit on Chris Godwin as a hip-drop tackle

The Buccaneers lost wide receiver Chris Godwin with a dislocated ankle after a tackle of Ravens linebacker Roquan Smith late Monday night, and Smith could lose money.

According to multiple reports, the NFL is reviewing whether Smith's tackle had all the elements of the now-banned hip-drop tackle. If the review finds Smith's tackle violated the rule implemented this season, Smith would be fined.

The NFL said last week that it has reviewed 22 plays as hip-drop tackles. According to the league, a defender must wrap up a ball carrier, twist or pivot his hip, unload and drop onto the ball carrier's legs to be considered a tackle. Referees can penalize players for fouls during the game, but it's difficult to judge all the elements in real time, and no flags have been waved yet this season.

Seven of those 22 plays resulted in fines. We'll find out this week if Smith is No. 8.
